Dr. Reid holds a United States patent for an elliptical punch biopsy device that addresses a longstanding limitation of standard circular punch biopsies — the tendency to leave a round defect requiring figure-of-eight closure or resulting in a suboptimal scar. The elliptical design produces a wound geometry that closes more naturally along relaxed skin tension lines, improving both the procedure workflow and the final cosmetic result.
